Welcome to this seventh issue of the SPREP Pacific Ecosystem-based Adaptation to Climate Change (PEBACC) project newsletter, an initiative to disseminate information on Ecosystem- based Adaptation (EbA). This edition covers the period from August to October 2018.

Although the amount of manufactured products in the Pacific is low, it still has a negative impact on our biodiversity. Conversely, because of the relatively low level of locally manufactured products, we import much more from countries outside the Pacific islands region.

A record surge in the creation of marine protected areas has taken the international community close to its goal of creating nature refuges on 17% of the world’s land and 10% of seas by 2020, according to a new UN report. Click on the link below to read the full article. 

Showcased at a special event at the 14th Conference of the Parties to the UN Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD COP14), Palau shared their invasive species story having undertaken five specific projects to restore their native island ecosystems.

Tonga has also entered into 15-year contracts with the International Seabed Authority and has exploration licenses granted within their Exclusive Economic Zone.
