Forestry is big business, with log exports earning Solomon Islands close to $300 Million US dollars in revenue last year. There's also rewards at village level, with logging commonly viewed as an easy source of cash for landowners and communities.

But one area that is staunchly opposed to logging is the East Kwaio region of Malaita Province. where the people there argue there's greater rewards in keeping logging out. Their experience is captured in a new report by Jubilee Research Australia and local conservation group Mai Maasina Greenbelt.
