President of the TORBA Provincial Government Council (TPGC), Edgar Howard, is calling on the national government to support marine protection and conservation of the Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) shared with Temotu Province in the Solomon Islands.
Mr. Howard said TORBA and Temotu have agreed to designate their EEZ as a protected area, and several organisations have already shown interest in funding the initiative. He explained that while Temotu has completed its business plan with the backing of the Solomon Islands government under Prime Minister (PM) Jeremiah Manele, TORBA has yet to begin its own.
